University of Waterloo Scholarships provide recipients with the following advantages:

  • The David Johnston Lebovic Foundation International Experience Awards will be given for as much as $2,500 to fund one-time study or study opportunities, $2,500- $5,000 for one-time volunteering or work experience, or up to $10,000 for 2-term volunteering or work experience.
  • International Master’s Award of Excellence is worth $2,500 for each term for up to six months.

Eligibility Criteria for University of Waterloo Scholarships 2023

To be eligible to apply for University of Waterloo Scholarships, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Required Languages: English
  • Eligible Countries: All World Countries
  • Candidates with excellent academic standing (normally at least a 70 percent minimum average in the undergraduate level, and generally, a minimum of 75 percent average in graduate school) can be considered for the scholarships.
  • The applicants are full-time undergraduate and graduate students from any department who want to have some form of international exposure in Israel which includes a minimum-paid or volunteer co-op international work placement, volunteer placement or academic exchange, or an academic term that is related to academic requirements.
  • Students from abroad who have an active Canadian study permit that is fully registered and are assessed international tuition fees.
  • Students usually receive this type of award who are enrolled in research-based courses (thesis or the major research piece).
  • It is usually only given to students who have completed the very first term of their course (term 1.0).
  • Students must be able to demonstrate academic excellence using criteria established by faculty.
  • Students must fulfill the academic standards of their program. They must also not have any outstanding probationary admission requirements.
  • The award could be given added to other external or internal awards (e.g., UW Graduate Scholarship, OGS, etc). Notice that scholarships differ from sponsorships – refer to the next bullet.
  • In general, students shouldn’t receive concurrently the sponsorship of foreign agencies or governments (e.g., China Scholarship Council, Libyan sponsorship, etc.) or be completely or partially self-funded to the extent of the faculty’s minimum levels of financial support.
  • Grandparents of students who are part of the current IMSA program are not eligible to be considered for an IMAE however students who have been granted an IMSA for an earlier master’s degree could be eligible to be considered for IMAE.
  • Students will automatically be selected to be eligible for this award based on their application for admission. Departments and/or Faculty will determine their own internal procedures for selecting recipients based on qualifications criteria and the allocation.
  • Faculties may require stricter requirements for eligibility as needed.
